BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence coach Joni Stigall didn’t have to do a lot of talking. And that’s the way she likes it.
Her Stars needed little instruction or coaxing from outside the courts as they took care of business on them, sweeping to a 5-0 victory over Brown County on Tuesday afternoon.
BNL (3-4) dominated on four courts while winning its third straight match.
“It’s nice to let them go play,” Stigall said. “We don’t have to talk a lot. We don’t have to coach as much and it’s nice for them to figure things out on their own.
“They are doing that. They’re listening in practice, and we can see them working on it during the match. That’s a good sign. We can’t ask for much more than that.”
Kiara Terry topped Baelyn Koester 6-1, 6-1 at No.1 singles while Presley Clark pressed past Meg Smith 6-3, 6-0 at No.2. Zoe Ueltschi was the only hard worker as she fought off Olivia Baughman 7-6, 6-4 at No.3.
In doubles, the Stars breezed as Abby Riley and Abbey Bridges bounced Hannah Asher and Cassidy Davis 6-2, 6-1 at No.1. Molly Simmerman and Angelica Godsey rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Claire Dannelley and Emilia Koester at No.2.
The Stars are improving at a fast pace.
“They want to,” Stigall said. “There’s a big difference in this team. They are competing for spots, they want to win and they want to get better.”
BNL will visit Jennings County on Thursday.
