JASPER – Bedford North Lawrence swimmers qualified for the IHSAA state finals in three events during the girls sectional at Jasper on Saturday.
Sidney Carlile shattered two school records and advanced to the state in the 100-yard butterfly, Ursula Patton was victorious in the 500 freestyle, and that duo helped the 200 medley relay team qualify with a triumph in that race.
The winners of each event automatically advanced to the state finals at IUPUI on Feb. 8-9.
Carlile crushed her own school record in the butterfly, clocking 58.27 to beat the 58.48 she posted last year. She also broke her own mark in the 200 individual medley (2:11.53), but she was second in that race as Pike Central’s Natalie Bohnert touched first in 2:10.66.
Patton won the 500 in 5:29.60. She was also second (1:59.43) to Jasper’s Megan Matheis (1:58.27) in the 200 free.
Carlile, Patton, Hayley Hatfield and Shaylee Summers combined to win the medley relay in 1:55.27. The Stars were second in the other two relays.
Jasper won the team title with 462 points while the Stars were second with 355.
The state preliminaries are set for Feb. 8 in the IU Natatorium. The top 16 in each event will advance to the second day, with places 9-16 qualifying for the consolation races while the top 8 with compete in the championship races.
