BEDFORD – Taylor Norman’s golf game is definitely primed to peak at the perfect time. Bedford North Lawrence just needs someone to join her at that level of maximum proficiency.
Norman, fresh from a record-shattering performance on Tuesday, continued her personal assault on par, carding a 1-under 36 while powering the No.13 Stars to an easy victory over Brownstown on the front nine of Otis Park on Thursday.
Records cannot fall every day, and perhaps the Stars were due for a slow-down round. With the key tournaments, including the Hoosier Hills Conference on Monday at St. Anne’s in North Vernon, fast approaching on the schedule better now than in 11 days when the postseason begins.
Victory over the Braves was not the issue. Competing with themselves and staying sharp was the bigger battle. The Stars totaled 162 (compared to the Braves at 232).
“We thought we would have a couple of better scores,” BNL coach Aaron Sanders said. “Practice has been going well. This was pretty much the same thing as Jasper (on Tuesday) – Taylor played well and everyone else just ho-hummed it. That seems to be our theme of late, someone plays really well and nobody else brings anything in to help.”
Norman didn’t need much assistance. She had three birdies (holes 1, 5 and 9) and only two bogeys. A recent swing lesson sure has paid off.
“It’s just confidence,” Norman said.
She should not lack that. After her dazzling 31 at Jasper, she came back with solid ball striking and made her first official tour of the par-37 front side in two weeks.
“It felt good playing the front nine again and doing well,” Norman said. “We had not played the front in forever.”
BNL will compete in the Franklin Central Invitational at Smock Golf Course on Saturday.
