LEXINGTON, Ky. – Bedford North Lawrence concluded its season-opening Kentucky road trip with a 7-2 loss to Tates Creek during high school baseball action on Thursday afternoon.
The Commodores, 7-0 and ranked No.3 in Kentucky, overcame four errors and five walks with consistent offense – scoring in four of their six at-bats – as the Stars fell to 0-3.
BNL scored its two runs in the fifth but managed only 3 hits.
Tates Creek scored twice in the first against BNL starter Garrett Watson. Noah Blythe walked, Colin Burgess singled, Byron Smith drove in the first run with a RBI single, and Eli Tencza chased home the second run with a ground out.
The Commodores added a run in the third on Tencza’s RBI single, then scored twice more in the fourth with the bottom of the order as Chandler Workman singled, Hudson Hawkins hammered a triple to center, and Dylan Crook added a RBI single.
BNL answered in the fifth. Dalton Nikirk reached on an error, and Joey Thacker scored him with a double to center. Whitt Callahan added an infield hit, and Colton Brown lofted a sacrifice fly.
Tates Creek added two unearned insurance runs in the sixth on two walks and a two-out outfield error.
Crook had two hits while Konnor Lewis earned the win on the mound, working 4 1/3 innings while giving up only two hits. Blayne Deaton survived a wild seventh with three walks and three strikeouts.
Thacker had two hits for the Stars. Ethan Baer pitched three relief innings and walked 5 before BNL’s lone error cost the extra runs.
BNL will return home to face North Harrison on Saturday.
