MONTGOMERY – Barr-Reeve swept the doubles while spoiling Bedford North Lawrence’s season debut with a 4-1 win during girls high school tennis action on Monday afternoon.
Presley Clark posted the lone win for the Stars (0-1) at No.2 singles.
“We played a good, experienced team,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said. “Their doubles played well together and played tough at the net. I hate to lose the first match, but now we know where our focus needs to be.”
Barr-Reeve’s Kadee Claridge and Kaitlyn Mincey stopped Abby Riley and Sarah Gaither 6-3, 6-1 at No.1 doubles while Gracie Madison and Hunter Emmons topped Abbey Bridges and Molly Simmerman 6-2, 6-4 at No.2.
Clark posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lisa Hostettler, but the Vikings recorded wins on the other singles courts as Mariah Bullock bounced Kiara Terry 6-0, 6-4 at No.1 while Kinley Schrock conquered Angelica Godsey 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 at No.3.
“Presley played exactly how she should have,” Stigall said. “She was patient but aggressive. Kiara was just a little outmatched. Angelica made some errors at the wrong time. Her second set was how she needed to play all three. We will keep working.”
The Stars will host Vincennes Lincoln on Thursday.
